My Makeup Collection 2018-Highlighters

So I was scrolling through WordPress Search under “makeup” and I saw a blog post that I wanted to do my own version of. Creds to @mufavorites (click here to see her post!) I’m going to begin my makeup collection of 2018 with one of my favorite type of makeup products- highlighters! They’re shiny and pretty and that’s what attracts my eye when I see someone wearing them! These are all my highlighters I currently have in my makeup collection, which include some high end brands and some drugstore.

When you’re finished comment your favorite one!

Pressed Powder Highlighters

Buy “Legit Af” Highlighter Trio here $19

Colourpop “Legit Af” Highlighter Trio-

This trio is absolutely gorgeous. I love every single color, and I cannot explain how much I’m in love with the formula. The formula is extremely buttery and smooth, and a little goes a long way.

1. Over the Moon:

Over the Moon is more of a sheer, holographic-effect highlighter. This picture does not do its justice. It’s sheer with a subtle purple shimmer. When light hits a certain spot, it will give off a pretty holo-effect shine while the other parts without light looks just sheer and dewy.

2. Spoon:

Spoon is a stunning rose gold, champagne color. This is definitely my favorite shade out of the trio. When I put this highlighter on, my whole cheekbone glistens and shines. This will definitely make heads turn.

3. Wisp:

Wisp is the “darkest” of the three. It’s a bronze color with a subtle rose gold tint that almost looks metallic. Wisp is perfect for the summer when fair tones get tanned, but perfect for darker skin tones year-round.

Pros

  • Easy to blend
  • Affordable
  • Soft, creamy and buttery
  • Shocking highlight

Cons

None!

Colourpop Super Shock Highlighter In “Flexitarian”-

Flexitarian is by-far my #1 favorite highlighter. It’s a gorgeous, intense white champagne color. I really love the way this glows and how easy it is to blend. Words just can’t describe what I feel for this baby, so look at the picture!

Pros

  • High Shine
  • Affordable
  • Stunning color
  • Glides on smoothly and blends like a dream

Cons

None!

Colourpop Super Shock Highlighter In “Rocket Science”-

Buy it here $7

With a subtle silver sheen, and it’s pastel purple tones, this highlighter is very unique. Although it may look like it comes off very purple in the swatch, that’s not the case when you sweep it on your cheekbones. The purple tones are actually very subtle and it makes a gorgeous glow.

Pros

  • Gorgeous color
  • Affordable
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to blend
  • Buttery and soft

Cons

None!

Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Gold Bar-

Wet n Wild shows us that drugstore makeup is nothing but the same as high end brands, just with lower prices with this highlighting gold bar! It’s very smooth to the touch and the color is gorgeous. It does need a couple layers to achieve a high pigmented look, but other than that this highlighter is great!

Pros

  • Gorgeous gold color
  • Affordable
  • Smooth and easy to blend

Cons

  • Have to add a few layers to achieve a high-pigment, high-shine look.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator In “Ballerina”-

After browsing through Ulta for a long hour and a half, my mom came home with this highlighter for me. It was my very first highlighter (I was in freshman year of high school I’m 19 now) and it was perfect. She thought it would be good for me since I’ve never used highlighter before, and it would be good for getting used to that kind of makeup. It’s a pretty, more natural glow that looks a bit bronze on my pale arm, but on my face it blends in.

Pros

  • Pretty, natural highlight
  • Good as a base for other highlighters or for beginners

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Needs to be built up with a few layers to achieve some what of a shinier glow

Wet n Wild Megaglo Illuminating Palette In “Catwalk Pink”-

Okay, I’m gonna start off by saying that I wasn’t going to include this in here, but I want my blog to be out in the open and truthful about everything, and I want my readers to be informed before purchasing so here goes. This palette is god awful. It’s chalky, the flashback is terrible and the colors are so ugly. I don’t know why this was in my makeup collection but I know I will never use this! The only shade that I think is somewhat pretty is the lightest one but since it’s so chalky that outweighs the color.

Pros

None

Cons

  • Chalky and has bad flashback
  • Doesn’t blend good at all
  • Colors are ugly
  • Pigment is awful

Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Pearls Powder-

This baby attracted my eye in the store and what made me buy it was that fact that the box said “real mineral pearl extract.” The color is so pretty if you’re going for a natural look, and if you want a little bit more shine, you’re in luck because it’s buildable! I really like this highlighter on beginners because it introduces you to what highlight is all about at a low price.

Pros

  • Pretty pink/gold-pearl color
  • Buildable and blendable
  • Buttery smooth
  • Affordable
  • HAS REAL PEARLS IN IT

Cons

  • Doesn’t give off a blinding look if that’s what you’re going for (great as a base though)

Tarte- tartiest PRO Glow Highlight Contour Palette-

I didn’t show you the inside of this palette for a reason: it’s a hot mess. I’ll give you a mental image instead. It’s got 4 gorgeous highlighters that are universal for any skin tone or color, and it has 2 contour sections; one is a cream contour and the other is a powder. The highlighters are buildable and they give off a sparkly, intense glow. Once I got used to a natural highlighter I moved up to this, which was the perfect transition from beginner to intermediate. It’s good for beginners as well, as long as you like your highlight to look more intense!

Pros

  • Buildable
  • High-shine
  • Highly Pigmented
  • Gorgeous colors suited for every skin tone and color

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Needs a little more work to be blended evenly

Laura Geller Baked Body Frosting In “Tahitian Glow”-

Although it may look like a bronzer on my pale arm as of now, it actually gives off this bronzed beach goddess look in the summer when I’m tan! It’s very buttery and smooth and it glides evenly on your skin.

Pros

  • Gives off a nice, bronzed yet illuminated look
  • Blend-able and buildable
  • Looks natural
  • Lasts long (the bronzer itself, and when it’s on the skin)

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Doesn’t give a blinding highlight

Rate: 10/10 (although it’s pricey, it lasts very long)

Wet n Wild To Reflect Shimmer Palette In “Boozy Brunch”-

Another Wet n Wild highlighter but this time they get a thumbs up. This palette is similar to their gold bar palette. It’s a soft-natural glow that’s buildable and blend-able. The color is a pretty gold color with hints of pink to add some color to the face.

Pros

  • Looks amazing when applied wet
  • Blend-able and buildable
  • Natural glow that gives high pigment payoff
  • Affordable

Cons

  • You have to add a few layers to achieve a somewhat shinier look

Milani Illuminating Face Powder In 02 “Hermosillo Rosa” and 01 “Amber Nectar”-

Milani has amazing makeup products for a drugstore brand and I love everything she has to offer. This isn’t necessarily the highlighter I’d use to achieve an intense highlight look, but it is what I’d sweep over my bronzer and under my usual highlight to achieve a dewy look.

Pros

  • Blend-able and buildable
  • Pretty over bronzer and under usual highlight to get a dewy look
  • Affordable

Cons

  • A bit too sheer & not enough glow

It Cosmetics Airbrush Illuminizer-

Unfortunately I don’t think they sell this anymore but there should be a petition to bring it back! This stuff is great for baking and highlighting all in one! It has a gorgeous pearly glow to it that radiates whenever light hits it.

Pros

  • Works great for baking and highlighting in one
  • Gorgeous radiating glow
  • Stays shimmery all day and night

Cons

  • Pricey

Colourpop Luster Dust Loose Highlighter In “Sugar Trap”-

Drumroll please for my favorite loose highlighter! Not only does this shimmer all day, but it gives off this intense shimmer that I live for. If I could bathe in this stuff, I most definitely would. Ugh it’s just too pretty!

Pros

  • Gorgeous color
  • Intense shine
  • Long-lasting
  • Affordable
  • Highly pigmented

Stick and Liquid Higlighters

Laura Geller Liquid Gelato Pillow Top Illuminator (Gilded Honey)-

My Mommom actually gave this to me (along with all the other stuff she orders from HSN and never wears), and I was surprised because it was actually really pretty! I’m fair skinned so I wear this in the summer when I’m tan, and when I do wear it in the summer it looks golden and bronze and gorgeous. I’d actually recommend using this as a base for your usual highlight as well!

Pros

  • If you like a subtle, more natural highlight, this is for you
  • Works as a great base for any powder highlights
  • Pretty color

Cons

  • A tiny bit tacky
  • Too subtle and natural if you like a blinding highlight
  • Pillow top” gets mushy and weird, and you have to change it

Nyx Holo Graphic Halo in “Reflector“-

I made sure to pick this cutie up from the NYX store in King Of Prussia Mall! After a long search for a highlighter that actually looked holographic, I finally found it as soon as I swatched. The color is honestly stunning and it produces a head-turning glow. It’s unique from a lot of highlighters I’ve seen.

Pros-

  • Stunning color
  • Blinding shine
  • Blends well

Cons-

None!

Maybelline Master Strobing Stick In “Medium-Nude Glow“-

Being the popular drugstore brand that Maybelline is, I was excited to try this “strobe” stick. Just with the swatch I was very pleased with the glow it gave off, as well as how it shimmers not only with direct light on one spot. It’s lightweight as well!

Pros

  • Lightweight & creamy
  • High shine/glow
  • Pretty color

Cons

  • It does feel a little tacky when you touch it

Buy it here $9.99

Wet N Wild Limited Edition Megaglo Multi-Stick In “Marigold Round”-

I really wanted to like this highlighter but I just couldn’t because it’s too sheer. I like my highlight to “pop” and be blinding but this just looks too natural for me.

Pros

  • If you like a natural highlight than this is for you
  • The color

Cons

  • Too sheer if you want a blinding highlight like me
  • Doesnt stay in place

Rate: 4/10 (only because it’s a pretty pearl-pink tone)

Buy it here $7

NYX Away We Glow Liquid Highlighter In “Daytime Halo”-

If you like a subtle, natural dewy glow than this is definitely the highlighter for you. If you’re like me and like a stunning, shocking highlight than you should definitely use this as a base for your powder highlighter! It definitely makes a great base to make your normal highlighter really pop.

Pros

  • Works as a great base for powder highlighter
  • Is a naturally dewy highlight, if that’s what you like

Cons

  • Not a blinding highlight, if that’s what you want
